I sketched the evening that the filmmakers met their subjects for the MYgradion film series. I was therefor excited to see the end results of these films that had to be shot and crafted over just 2 days. At the filmmaker meet an greet, one filmmaker, David Yanovich, found out that because of a mix up, he didn’t have a subject to work with. He was asked to just hang out since sometimes a filmmaker might just not show up. Sure enough someone didn’t show and David was matched with a subject. This was his first time crafting a short […]

Welcome to episode 61 of The American Dream in The Eyes of Immigrants Podcast. I am your host, Heidy De La Cruz, and I am on a mission to change the narrative of immigration one immigrant story at a time! Today’s guest is Idrees Khan - his parents immigrated from Trinidad and Tobago, and he was born and raised in South Florida. If you know anything about South Florida, you know how culturally diverse it is. Idrees shares the mixture of friends and people he grew up with and thought that the rest of the US was just as diverse. It wasn’t until he got to college that he realized it wasn’t. Listen in as Idrees shares some history of Trinidad and Tobago and why the Caribbean is so diverse as well and he shares a lot of his parent’s family history. Honestly, I learned a few things about the slavery trade I didn’t know before. Hope you learn something new as well :) With Love, Heidy P.S. - Here is the link to the Trini restaurant Idress mentioned in the episode - https://g.co/kgs/EVq6vj2 Connect with Idrees: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drees_03 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/eatncultures TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@eatncultures VOTE FOR THE AMERICAN DREAM IN THE EYES OF IMMIGRANTS PODCAST TO WIN THE WOMEN IN PODCASTING AWARDS! On the second pass of the poster for What the Constitution Means to Me, I had the actress much smaller. What I liked about this design was that the Constitution shows up quite well against the light shining on the wall. I also like that the American Legion photos seem to go on forever, and the authors name is crisp and clear against the light. Having the podium and American Legion symbol helped set the place but I needed to change the focus and zoom in on the actress. I also had her smiling so broadly that you can not […]
